The LAGB student committee is looking for current doctoral students to join the committee. We especially welcome applications from underrepresented groups and/or those attending universities outside of the South East of England.

Forming part of the LAGB Committee, the Student Committee aims to represent the student members of the LAGB, and to provide a conduit through which issues and concerns on behalf of students can be raised. The Student Committee also have a number of specific objectives: to disseminate news and opportunities to the wider student community, to assess applications for funding for postgraduate conferences, and to organise the annual LAGB student summer school day. The experience offered by contributing to the Student Committee would be extremely beneficial to candidates looking to progress into an academic role after their PhD, giving experience of peer review and workshop organisation in particular, as well as excellent networking opportunities.

You can find out more about the student committee specifically here.

Up to four positions are available on the committee. It is expected that one appointee will take on the role of secretary of the student committee. The other positions are not attached to any specific role.

    How to apply:

Doctoral candidates (at any level) are encouraged to submit a 500 word statement of interest, indicating how they might contribute to the Student Committee. In addition, we ask that applicants are supported by a statement from their respective doctoral supervisors, confirming their status and outlining their strengths.

Applications should be sent to the Chair of the Student Committee (e.jamieson@sms.ed.ac.uk) no later than 5th October 2018. Statements of support from supervisors should be sent separately, and can arrive after the stated deadline. General enquiries can be submitted to the committee’s collective email address at lagbsc@gmail.com.

We look forward to hearing from you.

    E Jamieson

    Chair, LAGB Student Committee
