The LAGB disburses a maximum grant of £300 to help support linguistics conferences/workshops run in the UK by LAGB members (there is a separate process for student conferences). The committee will consider two main aspects of eligible applications for funding: (i) the intellectual content of the conference; (ii) the specific use of the LAGB money. We are interested in funding aspects of conferences that enhance the career prospects of postgraduate student or Early Careers Researchers, as well as initiatives that improve the diversity of conferences (e.g. sign language interpreters, balancing issues of gender, ethnicity, minority languages etc. in the roster of invited speakers).
It is a condition of funding that the LAGB support is acknowledged and that the LAGB logo appears on the conference website.
If you are a member of the LAGB who is organizing a conference, you may use the online form at the bottom of this page to submit an application to the LAGB president, Prof. George Tsoulas.
From the beginning of 2005 the LAGB has adopted a scheme of application rounds. You should bear these in mind when applying for sponsorship. It is not possible to apply for conference funding in retrospect. Your application will be considered for funding at the first decision date which occurs after your application. It is therefore a good idea to plan your submission in advance. The decision dates are:
Application in respect of events for which attendance is by invitation only will not be eligible. Applications for the conferences of learned societies which are themselves membership-funded (like the LAGB) will also not be eligible.
Applicants must be LAGB members at the time of applying for the grant.
