    The Department of Language and Linguistics is seeking to appoint a full-time Lecturer in the field of phonology. The appointed candidate will be responsible for delivering teaching in phonology and phonetics at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level. The successful candidate will have specialised in phonology with expertise in related areas such as phonetics and morphology an added advantage. The candidate should demonstrate excellent research in phonology, showing a good grasp of contemporary phonological theory and a critical understanding of the inter-relatedness between phonology and other modules of grammar and with phonetics in particular. The successful candidate will contribute to the supervision of both MA and PhD students in phonology and related areas.

    Essex offers a broad spectrum of expertise in the study of language with a long history of research in theoretical linguistics that the successful candidate will contribute to. The department’s expertise in linguistics includes Theoretical and Descriptive linguistics, Applied linguistics, Sociolinguistics, Psycholinguistics, TESOL and Translation, Interpreting and Subtitling. The department thus provides a vibrant atmosphere in which to conduct world-leading research as demonstrated in our REF 2014 ranking placing us 8th among linguistics departments in the UK for research quality.

    This is a 1.0fte full time permanent post (nominal 36 hours per week). The start date is flexible but the successful candidate should be in post no later than 1st September 2017.
