UCAS, Linguistics and UKLO

This is really for admissions tutors. For some years I've been gathering figures for Linguistics BA (Q100) applications (along with various other measures for language education), which you'll find at http://dickhudson.com/trends-in-uk-language-education/#ling.

I have two questions and two comments.

    • Do you know why there are two different series of figures? In my graph I call them (1) and (2), but I found both on the UCAS site, without explanation. They coincide for 2009 and later, but they're wildly different for 2007-8.
    • According to series (2), linguistics applications have almost doubled (2,000 to 3,500) since 2007. (I don't yet have figures for 2015.)
    • Since 2010, the entries for the UK Linguistics Olympiad (Advanced) have risen to about 3,000 per year, so it's at least possible that the Olympiad is helping to recruit for BA Linguistics.
    • Have you noticed an increase in UCAS applications which mention UKLO?
