    New Perspectives on Irish English 3
    The State of Irish English: Connecting Multiple Views on a Variety

    Previously held at University College Dublin, this year’s New Perspectives on Irish English 3 will be held at the University of Limerick from the 18-19 June 2015. It is hosted jointly by the University of Limerick and Mary Immaculate College, Limerick and is jointly organised with Newcastle University, UK.

    The aim of the event is to build on the success of previous symposia in creating a space for scholars of Irish English to share current research and perspectives, and create new collaborations. The focus of research on Irish English has hitherto been clustered – within the fields of syntax, phonology, semantics-pragmatics, dialectology, sociolinguistics, corpus-based linguistics, or literary studies, for example – and the principal goal of this symposium is to draw these inherently connected strands together, to create a strong collective that is open and interdisciplinary.

    We now invite paper contributions that focus on Irish English, and varieties of Irish English, from diverse perspectives, including considerations of questions such as, but not limited to:

    ·       New and existing approaches to collecting and analysing Irish English data;
    ·       New (and old) sources of data for Irish English research, including representations of Irish English in various media, such as television/film/broadcast and social media/literature etc.;
    ·       Conceptualising and investigating varieties of spoken and written Irish English;
    ·       New speakers of Irish English;
    ·       Combining different theoretical frameworks for analysing Irish English.

    We welcome abstracts in any of the areas listed above. Anonymous abstracts should not exceed 250 words. Name, affiliation and contact details should be provided in the accompanying e-mail.

    Abstracts should be sent to: Elaine.Vaughan@ul.ie <mailto:Elaine.Vaughan@ul.ie>  & Brian.Clancy@mic.ul.ie <mailto:Brian.Clancy@mic.ul.ie>

    Deadline: 16 April 2015

    NPIE 3 is being organised by Elaine Vaughan (University of Limerick) and Brian Clancy (Mary Immaculate College, Limerick),  in conjunction with Karen Corrigan, Newcastle University, UK.
