AE-Link 2014 Announcement and Call for Papers

The Second Asian and European Linguistic Conference

    (AE-Link 2014)

Following the success of AE-Link 1 at Leiden University in December 2013, we are pleased to announce that Newcastle University will host AE-Link 2 on 5-6th December 2014.

The aim of AE-Link is to provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of innovative efforts to bridge current linguistic research on the languages of Asia and Europe. Researchers working on both theoretical and applied areas of linguistics of the languages of the two regions are encouraged to apply.

    INVITED SPEAKERS

The invited speakers for AE-Link 2 are:

    • Professor Ian Roberts, University of Cambridge
    • Professor Alain Peyraube, Centre de Recherches Linguistiques sur l’Asie Orientale, EHESS
    • Professor Peter Sells, University of York

    CONFERENCE THEMES

AE-Link aims to strengthen collaboration between linguists from Europe and Asia. The committee invites abstracts on any field of linguistics on the languages of Asia and Europe, including, but not limited to:

    • Computational Linguistics
    • First and Second Language Acquisition
    • Language contact and language change
    • Morphology
    • Phonetics and Phonology
    • Semantics and Pragmatics
    • Syntax
    • Typology

The aim of the conference is to encourage a greater integration of linguistic research on Asian and European languages. The committee therefore particularly welcomes papers on Central, South, and East Asian languages, and papers that bring together previously disparate approaches to European and Asian linguistic issues.

    CALL FOR PAPERS

The committee welcomes submissions for 20 minute talks, which will be followed by 10 minutes of discussion. Each individual may submit up to one single authored paper and one joint paper.

Anonymous abstracts should not exceed 2 pages including examples and references (12pt Times or Times New Roman font, single-spaced, margins of at least 2.54cm/1inch). Abstracts must be written in English, with fully glossed examples conforming to the Leipzig glossing rules. Please romanise all Asian texts, and do not use Asian character fonts unless absolutely required.

Abstracts must be in .pdf format. The filename should be the first four words of the title. Abstracts must be submitted electronically via the AE-Link2 EasyAbs site, which is now open.

The deadline for the submission of all abstracts is 31st July 2014.  Applicants will be notified of acceptance in mid-September 2014.
