The International Society for the Linguistics of English (ISLE) has been awarding a young researchers' award, the Richard M. Hogg Prize, annually since 2008. The prize goes to the best paper on the English language by a researcher who has not yet received his or her Ph.D. or who is within two years' of having received the doctorate. Submitting researchers must be members of ISLE. ISLE membership is free for students (and generally affordable, e.g. postdoc Eur 7.50/year).

See http://www.isle-linguistics.org/prize/index.asp for details and submission guidelines.

The winner will receive a cash prize of £500 and their essay will be published on the ISLE website. Additionally, the winner will be encouraged to submit the prize-winning paper - revised where appropriate in line with judges' or referees' comments - for competitive review for publication in English Language and Linguistics.

The deadline for submissions is 31 March 2013.
