    Postgraduate Study at UCL: PhD Scholarships (AHRC, Provost’s Awards, Wolfson)

    The Department of Italian at University College London invites applications for the scholarships advertised below, from candidates interested in postgraduate study based partly or wholly in the Italian Department. UCL’s staff can offer supervision in a wide range of research areas, including Generative Linguistics, Medieval literature and thought; Dante studies; Renaissance literature and thought; Modern Italian history and politics; Modern and contemporary Italian literature; Contemporary Italian art; Cultural and Film Studies. We also encourage applications from students interested in interdisciplinary study, for projects co-supervised by a member of Italian Department staff with a colleague from another subject area. 

    AHRC Funding:

    The Italian Department is able to offer two awards from AHRC Block Grant funding: one PhD studentship; and one Research Preparation award for MA or MRes study, open to students intending to proceed to doctoral study on completion of their MA. Applications for the AHRC’s PhD studentship must be received by 1 February 2013 (https://www.ucl.ac.uk/selcs/research-degrees/scholarships-for-research-students-2012-13); for the Research Preparation MA studentship, by 1 March 2013 (https://www.ucl.ac.uk/selcs/masters/ma_scholarships).

    Additional PhD Funding:

    In addition, the Department will be nominating candidates for a number of awards in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, and in the School of European Languages, Culture and Society.

    The scholarships comprise:

    • UCL Provost’s SELCS Research Student Teaching Assistantships. Two awards. Eligible fields of  proposed study: ‘Trauma’, ‘Visual Culture’, ‘The Book’ or ‘Memory’, broadly interpreted.
    • UCL Wolfson Scholarships. Three awards. Eligibility: candidates intending to study for a research degree in history, literature and languages.
    • UCL Graduate School Research Scholarships (GRS).
    • UCL Overseas Research Studentships (ORS).
    • UCL Impact Scholarships.
    • FIGS Postgraduate Research Studentships
