Eliciting data in second language research: Challenge and innovation.
A series of invited colloquia, hosted by the IRIS project.

at the University of York, UK.
The IRIS team (http://www.iris-database.org/iris/app/home/index) is pleased to announce a two-day series of invited talks and poster presentations, to bring together researchers working across diverse areas of second language studies.
Content of papers. Each presentation will be a conference-style paper, a hands-on workshop, or a demonstration. Questions to be addressed include:
· What data collection tool or approach does this presentation focus on?
· What sorts of data emerge from using this tool/instrument?
· What are some of the methodological challenges that come up when using this particular elicitation technique or approach to collecting data?
· How do such challenges impact theory, findings, or research designs?
· Are there recent innovations, developments, or refinements of this tool or approach?
· Do any other kinds of measures / instruments / tests contribute to our understanding of the use of this elicitation tool?
Structure. Invited colloquia are each 2 hours. Papers will be 20 minutes with 5 minutes for questions. Each colloquium will end with a discussion of 20 minutes.
The conference and accommodation is in the National Science Learning Centre at York, and the conference dinner is at St William's College, next to York Minster. There are three free places for students presenting posters, and reduced fees for all students.
There will be an open call for poster presentations in January 2013, when registration opens.
Please note: The BAAL annual conference will be in Edinburgh 5-7 Sept 2013, and the EuroSLA annual conference will be in Amsterdam, 28 Aug- 1 Sept 2013. Travel to York from both these places is very reasonable, and the timing allows a day's visit in York!
