    Department of Language and Linguistic Science

    Language & Linguistic Science at York is seeking to appoint a Lecturer (Research & Teaching) in Phonetics and Phonology to teach on its undergraduate and taught masters programmes. This role is cover for a senior department member who is taking up a key strategic role within the University. The appointment is fixed term for three years and nine months.

    Role

    You will take the lead in teaching a variety of phonetics and phonology modules. In the academic session 2018-2019 you will be expected to teach the following: Advanced Phonetics (PGT), Articulatory & Impressionistic Phonetics (UG and PGT), Introduction to Phonetics & Phonology (UG). As the role develops you may be expected to contribute to the further development of phonetics and phonology as part of the undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum. You will also lead on and/or contribute to the production of research outputs and research outcomes, contribute to supervision of students’ work, for both final-year undergraduate and masters dissertations, as well as pastoral duties and administration within the Department.

    Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

    You are an early career linguist with a PhD in Linguistics or closely related field. You are familiar with the latest advances in phonetics and phonology and have a track record of high quality teaching, in a variety of formats, including lectures and seminars. In addition to detailed subject knowledge you should demonstrate highly developed oral and written communication skills, and provide evidence of attention to detail and commitment to high quality in your work.

    This post is available full-time on a fixed term basis, for 3 years and 9 months
