SOAS Department of Linguistics is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Researcher to conduct research on AHRC-funded project “Prominent Possessors” under the direction of Professor Irina Nikolaeva as Principal Investigator. The project involves a close cooperation with Dr Oliver Bond and Prof Greville G. Corbett at the University of Surrey. Its aim is to investigate a number of unusual possessive constructions from a theoretical and cross-linguistic perspective, collect new data from little studied related and unrelated languages, and compile a typological database of relevant phenomena. Applicants should hold a PhD in Linguistics. Expertise in syntactic theory and typology, and a strong research background as evidenced by an excellent publication record, together with having experience of linguistic fieldwork and constructing typological databases; and working with data from a variety of related and non-related languages, are essential.

You will have the ability to work independently in an organised and methodical manner, excellent written and oral communication skills, and strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.

Salary: £34,609 per annum inclusive of London allowance

    Application deadline: 22 September 2016

The role is expected to begin as soon as possible from 1 November 2016.
