The Division of Linguistics and English Language of the University of Manchester is supporting applications to the Leverhulme Early Career Research Fellowship scheme:

    http://www.leverhulme.ac.uk/funding/ECF/ECF.cfm

The scheme offers three years' postdoctoral funding to applicants who either have a degree from a British University or hold a fixed-term appointment at a UK institution at the time of application. Their doctoral thesis must have been submitted between 6 March 2009 and 6 March 2014.

Expressions of interest are invited from potential applicants by Monday 13 January 2014. Potential applicants should e-mail the Research Support Manager of the School of Arts, Languages, and Cultures of the University of Manchester, Jonathan Starbrook, at jonathan.starbrook@manchester.ac.uk. Expressions of interest should be supported by the following documents:

    • A one-page CV,
    • Project title,
    • 100-word abstract,
    • Brief statement explaining how the project would fit with the Division of Linguistics and English Language of the University of Manchester,
    • Project description (max. 2 sides of A4).

The project description should comply with the following Leverhulme guidelines:

“This should include aims, objectives, methodology and outcome (e.g. publication plans). It should enable the Committee and your referees to form an estimate of the scope and importance of your proposal. The methodology should be clear and explicit, comprehensible to a non-expert. Include any bibliographic references in full, including page numbers where relevant. This statement and the bibliographic references may not exceed two sides of A4. Please add your name at the top of the first page.”

Applicants will be informed by mid February whether or not their applications will be supported.
