The MRes in Language and Cognition is a unique interdisciplinary programme which builds on two areas of particular research strength at Northumbria: cognitive linguistics in the Department of Humanities and psycholinguistics in the Department of Psychology (School of Life Sciences). The programme explores the relationship between language and cognition from a linguistic and psychological point of view and introduces students to a broad range of research methodologies, from corpus analyses to eye tracking and ERPs. It will appeal to graduates of English language, modern languages, linguistics, psychology, and cognitive science. Although it is a stand-alone degree, it is anticipated that a significant proportion of the students will continue on to a PhD; hence there is a strong emphasis on research methods and independent research.
