I've had an inquiry from a school teacher who is taking part in the UK Linguistics Olympiad about a pupil who's enthusiastic about studying linguistics at university and would love to do a work-placement in linguistics. I predict a steady stream of such requests in future so I think it's an important general issue for the linguistics community to consider. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas either about existing opportunities or about opportunities that could be created? A bright teenager could be a real asset on some research projects - and once inspired could stay with us for life.
