Dear Colleague,

I want to share some good news with the LAGB as one of our main sponsors. I'm very pleased to report that the two UK teams at the International Linguistics Olympiad (in Bulgaria this year) won an outstanding number of awards. Between them, the eight competitors won:

• 3 Honourable Mentions
• 1 Bronze medal
• 1 Silver medal
• 2 Gold medals (out of seven)
• 1 first prize in the team competition

These results are something for us all to celebrate, and do enormous credit to the champions themselves, many of whom had put in enormous amounts of practice. We hope that at least some of them will end up in linguistics at university. But behind them remember the 1400 Advanced competitors from whom we selected them - all bright and enthusiastic about linguistics.
