Newcastle University offers three-year PhD studentships in linguistics from October 2014 as part of the AHRC-funded Northern Bridge Doctoral Training Partnership. Studentships include a fee waiver and a maintenance grant, access to a research training grant to fund the costs of study abroad, conference attendance or fieldwork, and support to incorporate short-term placements. The three-year duration assumes full-time study; with part-time study, the duration can be spread pro-rata (usually six years). The deadline for applications is 17 February 2014, 5pm.
There is no quota for studentships in linguistics ; applicants compete against each other across the whole range of arts and humanities.
