Call for Linguistics Representative for the University Council for Languages Early Career Academics Special Interest Group

The ECA Special Interest Group at UCFL (formerly UCML) seeks a Linguistics representative

We are calling for self-nominations from early career academics (including PhD candidates) for the role. The new representative will remain members of the ECA SIG until they choose to step down.

The ECA SIG meets every six months, in person or online, to discuss new initiatives and support programmes for early career academics in the disciplines of languages and cultures. Each representative is in charge of their sub-discipline or nation and is asked to update the SIG at our meetings.

We address the challenges facing early career researchers and teachers in the current climate of precarity, organising workshops and events, and feeding back to UCFL as an organisation.

To nominate yourself, please email Llewelyn Hopwood (llh25@aber.ac.uk) or Olivia Glaze (olivia.glaze@sas.ac.uk) by noon on Monday 15 December with the following information: your full name, your current or most recent affiliation, and a brief summary of your current activities and motivations for the role (max 150 words).

Interested candidates can browse our webpages (https://university-council-modern-languages.org/early-career-academics/) and informally consult any of the current co-chairs: Olivia Glaze (olivia.glaze@sas.ac.uk) or Llewelyn Hopwood (llh25@aber.ac.uk).

Following UCFL, the ECA SIG seeks to ensure a balance of sexes, regions, and types of HEIs (pre- and post-92) among its members.
