Rules, Resistance, and Repair: Language Policing in Multilingual Educational Settings
This talk explores the dynamics of language policing in multilingual educational settings in the Swedish context, focusing on how institutional rules and linguistic norms shape classroom interactions. By examining instances of resistance and repair, it highlights how students and educators negotiate language use in response to language policing practices. Drawing on 40 hours video recorded data from English classes, this presentation reveals the subtle power dynamics at play andoffers insights into how language policies are enacted and contested in everyday educational practices.
