Dear Colleagues,
We are delighted to share the release of a new special collection in Languages, Society, and Policy (LSP) entitled Languages in UK Education, guest-edited by Wendy Ayres-Bennett and Charles Forsdick.
How can the UK transform language education and embrace its multilingual potential? Wendy Ayres-Bennett and Charles Forsdick set the stage, exploring key policy gaps, innovative strategies, and bold solutions across the four nations in this must-read collection.
The first three papers of the collection address:
- The potential of home, heritage, and community languages (HHCLs), like Polish and French, to enrich UK education.
- The need for equity in admissions policies for A-Level language qualifications, regardless of students’ backgrounds.
- Practical solutions for improving access to qualifications in lesser-taught languages to better reflect the UK’s linguistic diversity.
