Subject Benchmarking Statement Consultation and Relaunch of the IMLR

10 October 2022, online via Zoom

    17:00-18:30 BST

    https://modernlanguages.sas.ac.uk/events/subject-benchmarking-statement-consultation-and-relaunch-imlr

Chaired by Emma Cayley (UCML), this strategically focused workshop provides the opportunity to discuss important developments that affect the subject community as a whole.

The IMLR will be changing its name to the Institute of Languages, Cultures and Societies (ILCS) from 3 October 2022. Charles Burdett and Ainhoa Montoya will present the reasons behind the Institute’s change of name, its role going forward, and the strategic initiatives that it is planning. The new mission statement of the Institute is available at: https://modernlanguages.sas.ac.uk/about-us

Nigel Harkness, Ed Welch and Rasha Soliman will then speak about the work of the Advisory Group in preparation of the Subject Benchmarking Statement and the importance of responding to the consultation. The consultation is available here https://www.qaa.ac.uk/quality-code/subject-benchmark-statements/consultation-on-revised-subject-benchmark-statements.

The presentations will be followed by an open Q and A session.

For convenience, here is a direct link to download the draft Subject Benchmark Statement for Linguistics. Among other things, it seems like a very useful document to draw on for explaining to prospective (and current!) students, etc. what linguistics is, and what you can do with a linguistics degree:

    https://www.qaa.ac.uk/docs/qaa/quality-code/sbs-linguistics-consultation-22.pdf?sfvrsn=eeb9a581_4

Congratulations and thanks to all who have contributed to this (p. 17 of the document). It will be great if there can be feedback from a wide range of the LAGB membership. Here's a direct link to the consultation survey, which closes on Wednesday 2 November:
