    In addition to hiring a Professor or Reader in Second Language Acquisition (see post from 04 April 2022), the School of English Literature, Language and Linguistics at Newcastle University wishes to make two further permanent appointments: a Lecturer in Child Language Acquisition, and a Lecturer in Pragmatics.     LECTURER IN CHILD LANGUAGE ACQUISITION

    The School of English Literature, Language and Linguistics wishes to appoint an outstanding teacher and scholar as a full-time Lecturer in Child Language Acquisition.

    You will have a PhD in Linguistics or English Language (in hand or near completion) and have experience in teaching child language acquisition at undergraduate level. Proficiency in the collection, handling and quantitative analysis of child language data is essential. Also essential is excellent knowledge in one or more of the following areas of linguistics: phonetics/ phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics/ pragmatics. You will have an excellent publication record for your career stage. You should also be able to demonstrate clear potential for making a significant contribution to the School’s and Faculty’s collaborative teaching and research culture, which includes a capacity for academic and societal impacts through scholarly publication, community outreach and engagement. You will be an active member of the Language Evolution, Acquisition and Development research group, and share the group’s commitment to inter-disciplinary research.

    LECTURER IN PRAGMATICS

    The School of English Literature, Language and Linguistics wishes to appoint an outstanding teacher and scholar as a full-time Lecturer in Pragmatics.

    You will have a completed PhD in Linguistics or English Language, and have an active and promising research agenda in pragmatics that is firmly embedded in linguistic theory and connects with other areas of research strength in the English Language and Linguistics subject group. Expertise in qualitative approaches to data analysis and interpretation at the level of discourse is essential. Also essential is experience in teaching pragmatics and qualitative research methods at undergraduate level as well as an ability and desire to teach semantics and discourse analysis. You will have an excellent publication record for your career stage. You should also be able to demonstrate clear potential for making a significant contribution to the School’s and Faculty’s collaborative teaching and research culture, which includes a capacity for academic and societal impacts.
