The Role

The School of European Culture and Languages is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in English Language and Linguistics, with a research specialisation in the theory of second language processing and acquisition; candidates whose research focuses on the areas of phonetics and experimental phonology are particularly encouraged to apply. A secondary expertise in another area of linguistics including (but not limited to) sociolinguistics or computational linguistics is desirable but not essential. This position has been recently created in recognition of the growing importance of the Department of English Language and Linguistics in the School of European Culture and Languages.

The Person

The successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant discipline with a research specialisation in the theory of second language processing and acquisition. Evidence of substantial research activity, including peer reviewed publications of 3* or 4* quality ready for submission to REF2014 and teaching experience at university level are essential.

School of European Culture and Languages

The School of European Culture and Languages (SECL) is one of the largest academic schools at the University of Kent, embracing four modern language subjects (French, German, Hispanic Studies and Italian), English Language and Linguistics, Classical and Archaeological Studies, Comparative Literature, Philosophy and Religious Studies. It offers an extensive range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and a wide variety of research opportunities.

A seventh Centre for Heritage has been officially launched this academic year (2012-2013).
