Newcastle University has a number of funding opportunities in Linguistics for PhD study (some of which may include foregoing Master's level study).
AHRC
Linguistics is able to submit nominations to an open competition for the award of two AHRC doctoral studentships through the AHRC’s Doctoral Awards scheme. This scheme provides studentships to enable students to undertake and complete a doctoral degree (PhD). Home (UK) students and those EU students who have been resident in the UK for a minimum of three years are eligible for a full award comprising fees and an annual, tax free stipend to £13,590 (2012/13 rates). Other EU students are eligible for a fees-only award.

ESRC
We are able to submit two nominations in linguistics for doctoral studentships to the ESRC North-East Doctoral Training Centre. Studentships may include funding for foregoing Master's level study.
