Dear all
As you may have seen, this year’s Ofqual figures for provisional entries for A Level in England (released on 11 June, link below) show a 2% increase on last year for English Literature and 7% for English Language. This is slightly offset by the 4% drop for combined Language and Literature but, even so, this is encouraging news, especially since a demographic dip meant there were 2% fewer entries overall for A levels, and several popular subjects, including History, suffered a significant decline.
We shouldn’t read too much into one year’s figures but this is certainly a welcome development after the decline of previous years. Doubtless there are multiple factors involved, but the tremendous efforts that subject associations and other CEF organisations have made to analyse recruitment trends and promote the subject may be beginning to pay off.
