Dear LAGB members,
This is just a reminder that the LAGB has been asked to respond to the UKRI Open Access Review by (the new deadline of) 29th May 2020 both as an organisation and as part of the Arts and Humanities Alliance (AHA).
Many thanks to those who have already sent feedback. Please send any remaining feedback to michelle.sheehan@anglia.ac.uk by 20th May so that we can add it to the LAGB response.
Details of the review and consultation process can be found here:
https://www.ukri.org/files/funding/oa/open-access-review-consultation/
It is a long document but there is a useful executive summary at the beginning.
A full list of consultation questions can be found here:
https://www.ukri.org/files/funding/oa/full-list-of-consultation-questions/
The aim of the review is to establish "a single UKRI OA policy for research articles and long-form research publications that acknowledge funding from UKRI and its constituent councils" but also to "inform the development of the OA policy for research outputs submitted to the UK-wide Research Excellence Framework (REF) exercise following REF 2021 (REF-after-REF 2021)". For this reason, it is very important that we feed into this process and raise any potential issues.
We draw your attention, in particular to the plan to extend open access requirements to monographs, as summarised in points 7-8 of the executive summary.
Please note that you can also contribute to the consultation as an individual via the online form https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/open_access_2020.
Best wishes, Michelle Sheehan (LAGB Honorary Secretary, on behalf of the LAGB committee)
