The School of European Culture and Languages is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Danish Language, Linguistics and Culture, with a research specialisation in linguistics. Specialisation within linguistics is open but preference will be given to candidates whose expertise complements and strengthens the current linguistics research clusters in experimental and formal linguistics (particularly phonetics and laboratory phonology, syntax and pragmatics), sociolinguistics and literary stylistics in the department of English Language and Linguistics. Academic staff interested in a 3-year secondment to the University of Kent are eligible to apply. The ideal candidate is expected to be a native Danish speaker and to have research experience and publications commensurate with the stage in their career. He or she should possess versatility in teaching and will be primarily expected to teach Danish at all levels and linguistics modules in their area of expertise in the B.A. and M.A. programmes of English Language and Linguistics, and promote Danish culture and Scandinavian Studies.

Potential applicants may contact the head of department, Amalia Arvaniti (a.arvaniti@kent.ac.uk), head of school, Laurence Goldstein (l.goldstein@kent.ac.uk), for informal enquiries.

The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent with a research specialisation in linguistics; a university degree corresponding to a British Master’s or a Danish cand. mag., preferably in Danish, is desirable but not essential. Evidence of excellent research activity is required and teaching experience is desirable. The successful candidate should be able to take up the post on 1st September 2013.
