LAGB policy on handling personal information (May 2018)

Personal information which is provided to LAGB may be used in a number of ways:

  • for the purposes of organising the Annual Meeting of the Linguistics Association of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
  • to contact LAGB members and delegates at Annual Meetings about current and future LAGB activities

We hold personal data (name, affiliation and email address) of our members during the period of their membership. We do not share this information with any people or organisations outside LAGB, except in the following circumstances:

  • Members who wish to pay by Direct Debit will be asked additionally to provide their bank details as well as their consent for us to share their information with the LAGB bank, RBS, only.
  • Members who subscribe to Journal of Linguistics will be asked additionally to provide their mailing address as well as their consent for us to share this information with the Cambridge University Press, to be held under the terms of CUP’s own privacy notice

Members are automatically signed up to the LAGB Forum, which any LAGB member can use to post news and information of interest to all members. If a member has a concern or complaint about material posted of the Forum they should contact the External Relations Officer. LAGB Committee members occasionally send direct emails to all members with information related to the legitimate interests of the LAGB (e.g. running of the LAGB or its Annual Meeting).
